Historical Significance:
This marker commemorates the south entrance to the Old Walled City, which was founded by the Spanish Government as a Presidio. The Old Walled City of Tucson became part of the United States with the Gadsden Purchase in 1853 as the largest city in the Gadsden Purchase.
